What is toonsUp?

toonsUp is a constantly growing platform for comic artists, cartoonists and various other artists from different areas of illustration.

You can register as an artist for free and present and discuss your best works. toonsUp is a melting pot of creative ideas. The community opens up opportunities for you that are denied to lone fighters in the jungle of the market.

The friendly and constructive interaction between the artists is very important at toonsUp and motivated by our netiquette. Further rules can be found in our terms and conditions.

toonsUp is international, which is why all important functions are also offered in English.

The use of the platform is free of charge until further notice. (However, it cannot be ruled out that we will develop additional fee-based offers in the future and possibly reduce the free scope of services somewhat...)

As an artist, you do not have to give up any commissions or parts of your rights in the event that successful publishing contracts or similar are concluded via the site.

toonsUp ensures that your works are found much more frequently on the web. Through your presence on the platform and your presentation in this large pool of artists, you gain attention for yourself and your works.

toonsUp leaves you all rights to your works!

By uploading your works to toonsUp, you do not transfer any rights to them. We also do not take any commission if publishing contracts or similar are concluded for you via toonsUp.

By uploading, you simply grant us the right to show your work on this platform.

History

The inventors, administrators and programmers of toonsUp in 2007 were Berlin comic enthusiasts Martin Sander (Made) and Ronald Markworth (Ron), who had been friends since childhood.

They are enthusiastic comic and cartoon artists themselves, although they have never made this their profession.

"For us, the question at the beginning was: Why isn't there a site where there can be a lively exchange between artists and readers, where new ideas can develop, where anyone can create their own homepage with just a few clicks, where anyone can join in?
Instead of waiting for someone else to do it at some point, we took this project into our own hands."

The platform was operated by toonsUp e.V. for the last few years until 2024. The long-standing chairman was Marcus Behrend (embe), who was extremely committed and organised many campaigns and events. However, the association then disbanded in 2024 for various reasons, which would also have meant the end of the platform...

But then ICOM came along and took over operations in mid-2024. After a long break for technical and organisational reasons, the platform resumed operations in autumn 2024.

In 2019, the programming was taken over by Ingmar Decker (achecht), technically and visually redesigned, maintained and further developed.
