Thumbnail sketch

One of a series of sketches I did many years ago - the battling Barrister in my "Politics, Law, and the Recession" gallery is another. Dunno where the rest are - probably in the cat litter ;)

Go on - I know it's not a great joke, but I like it.

Hmmph! OBVIOUSLY, the other pictures are of other CELEBRITY thumbs and are drawn from life. He just happens to be working on a thumb self-portrait in the picture. wink.gifdrool.gifbiggrin.gif

... or he is double jointed?....confused.gif

...or he works from photographs or uses a mirror.biggrin.gif

hi des, indeed it's a great joke. first i was strucked to the fuzzy thumb - how does he made THIS, it really seems to be nearer.
The joke is great, BUT the thumb on all the images is supposed to be painted from the back, as the painter it sees.

OMG, but stuff like that happens to me too.

Haha!
I needed some time to get it, but then...lol.gif
I wish i could draw like you.

Much appreciated - Crumb was a unique talent. Would love to think I could approach that individuality.

The goddess of drawing is merciful - she hasn't struck me down yet ;) Spare your pencils- just burn some paperclips.

*lol* yes Crumb, Robert Crump that's him... wink.gif - actually seemed the look auf the name a little bit odd when I read it again last night - something was wrong, but I coludn't figure it out and was to tired to analyze or investigate further by google, so I decided that the odd feeling I had with the spelling of the name had to be derived from my tiredness....sorry - I hope the godess of drawing will forgive me, I will even sacrifice some pencils and rubbers to her wink.gif

Hope you mean Robert Crumb? :)

I love it! And the style reminds me a little bit if Robert Grump!top.giftop.giftop.gif

Didn't say it was an old joke. As far as I know, it's my own. But my family always groan at my jokes, so I assume they're a bit too obvious. :(

It's a fine joke, haven't seen this one anywhere before.

Sticking the tongue out is a "displacement activity" as I understand it. Also, there do seem to be indications in some reports that chewing enhances cogitation - giving unexpected value to the word "ruminating" which comes from the Latin verb for "to chew" and gives cattle and other hooved herbivores the term "ruminant", so maybe chewing or clamping on the tongue does enhance concentration.

All I know is, it does look funny.

I love the way that the tongue is sticking out of the artists mouth as he concentrates. Why do people feel the need to do this? Does sticking your tongue out of your mouth really improve concentration?
