Sheila And The Sheep
For Mary Hughes
By Andrew Mortimer
This picture tells a story. A recovering alcoholic takes his dog for a walk without bringing a leash, and they come across a river. There is a field of sheep on the other side of the river and the man foolishly decides to cross the bridge and allows the dog to enter the sheep field. The dog chases the sheep and two of them fall into the river. When the dog is done playing, the man returns home to get his wife to help save the drowning sheep. They get back to the field, the wife saves one sheep and the man decides to take it to the shepherd's home and inform the shepherd of the incident, leaving his wife in the river. While his wife goes about saving the second sheep, he finds the shepherd's home and the shepherd is delighted when he sees the rescued sheep. He presents the man with a bottle of whiskey, despite his drinking problem. The man accepts this reward and choses not to to tell the shepherd about the dog.

ein Hund beobachtet sichtlich erfreut durchs Fenster, wie eine Frau ein in den fluss gefallenes Schaf rettet, während die Männer sich mal wieder die Hucke vollsaufen.
Soweit alles klar. Aber was freut den Hund daran so? Wäre es denn nicht seine Aufgabe gewesen?
