Hm, it's possible. I could have changed Gerald's speech into a thought ("I think... after all this time, Rosalie is finally warming up to me!"), and then done away with the second panel entirely. Yes, that could have worked. Thanks for your suggestion mightystumpi, I'll try to pay more attention to see if a joke can be trimmed down :D

oh dear - this is sad somehow.
