In England as in the States we have an organisation called Speed dating.Couples can meet for about three minutes and then move on to another prospective partner for another three minutes.At the end of the session they may be teamed up with some one.
So therefore in the case of potato men or women it becomes SPUD dating which is English slang for potato.
