Now this cartoon has become sad reality (again). My profound respect for your courage and stamina, may those two months be over soon.
By the way, oppression of free speech is also present in Europe. In this particular case, none (very few) European paper or magazin would publish an Islam-critical cartoon. Not because of "respect for religion", but because of fear for religion.
Do you know what really makes me angry about these things? In Germany it is believed by the majority of it's population that we live in a well informed country with quite good newscasts all around, but what is really broadcasted on TV is censored in many ways. We get news about all "important" countries, like America or China - but we don't get to know about your case for example. On german TV there is broadcasted such a bullshit I can't even bear it. I banished my TV years ago - because my time's to precious to waste it with these broadcastings for morons we get around here. Documentaries which I am interested in I download from the internet and we pay our GEZ-fee (this is a fee to be payed by everybody in germany who has a TV ready, in order to enable the public-TV channels to produce TV Broadcasting without being just dependend on advertising and therefore also on the interests and opinions of the advertisers...)
I hope to read and see more of you on toonsUp and may all the religious madman get bottom-cancer and bad teeth (brain-cancer they seem to have allready) and may their sperms do as their occupants and do suicide - at least before fertilizing anyone (not even there goats).

Thu, Nov 12th, 2009 8:00 pm BdST Dial 2324 from your mobile for latest news Jessore, Nov 12 (bdnews24.com)–A Jessore court has handed down two months of rigorous imprisonment to cartoonist Arifur Rahman of satire magazine Alpin, a weekly publication of the daily Prothom Alo.
Judge Kaisarul Islam of the Judicial Magistrate's Court of Jessore in the ruling on Thursday said Arif will also have to pay Tk 500 in fine or another seven days in prison.
The verdict was given in the case regarding publication of sacrilegious cartoon in the magazine in Sep 2007.
"Arif is at large. The verdict was given in his absence," his lawyer Alamgir Siddiqi told bdnews24.com.
However, Arif told bdnews24.com that he knew nothing about this case.
He said treason and blasphemy cases against him have been dismissed in court.
The case was filed by ATM Shoaib, the imam of the Jessore Collectorate Mosque, at the Executive Magistrate's Court on Oct 23, 2007. The case alleged that the irreverent cartoon on prophet Hazrat Muhammad had hurt religious feelings.
Prothom Alo publisher Mahfuz Anam, editor Motiur Rahman and Arif were accused in the case. Later, the court issued arrest warrant only against Arif.
Security officials arrested Arif on Sep 18, 2007 after hard-line Islamic groups protested against one of his cartoons.
Authorities charged the young cartoonist with "hurting the religious sentiments of the people" and ordered 30 days' detention. Arif's detention was later extended by three months.
The government confiscated all copies of the now-defunct satire magazine in which the cartoon was printed.
Amid a protest by Islamic groups, Prothom Alo's editor and publisher apologised for printing the cartoon, and fired the cartoonist.
On Feb 4, the High Court ruled Arif's detention illegal and ordered his immediate release. He was freed on Mar 20 this year.
The cartoonist's arrest and detention also earned criticism from local and international rights groups.
In January, human-rights watchdog Amnesty International demanded Arif's release, terming him "a prisoner of conscience".
The thing with internet presentations is that they can also be watched by restrictive gouvernements. I think, if they want to observe someone's activities, they will look into the net, too. But safe place do not exsist anywhere. For that it's right to use any chance to publish as long as it is possible.
Best wishes, that there will ever be possibilities for you to tell your opinions and that the circumstances will become better for you by time!
Yes! I have still problem's. Some Unkhown Parson Threat (of kill ) me by Phone and E-mail. any Newspaper Don't went publish my cartoon , so now i make web / blog and I publish my cartoon.
So you have been arrested in bangladesh for drawing a simple joke about the name 'Mohammed' - did I get that right?
Maby you heared about the Mohammed caricatures in a danish newspaper. They caused a big conflict between europe and some muslims in countries like iran.
Here in europe it's an important moral concept, that everyone is allowed to express every opinion - may it be right or wrong or good or bad in the eyes of other people.
Because of that I get always shocked by stories like yours. I am very sorry that this happened to you.
