Aladdin on Stage

Another of my regular gigs is painting the sets for various drama companies in and around Limerick. Christmas brings out the Panto Society, and they have been consistent customers.

Last year's effort was Aladdin, The following are a few shots of some of the sets and publicity stuff I painted for them.

The piece with the Genie over the city was for the foyer of the theatre. Kids could get their photos taken sitting on the magic carpet. :)

In previous years, we created Cinderella's carriage, Captain Hook's pirate ship, and Snow White with the seven dwarves - their faces were on hinges and could be swung back so that kids standing behind the painting could put their own faces in place of the characters. Wish I'd gotten pictures of some of these. Too damn lazy and forgetful for my own good.

Amazing, the kids must have loved the magic carpet booth.

They get recycled, dude. I've overpainted and overover painted and overoveroverpainted works from previious shows so many times....

The window painting has to be cleaned off once the show is over, the sets get disassembled, and the artwork disappears under the next layer of paint - or continues for a show or two on the back of another painted piece. C'est la vie. Sic transit gloria panto.sob.gif

All of my work is fast food cartooning - you use it up, throw it away, and buy some more if you need it. I'm not proud. It's a living - sort of.
