This is a very recent cartoon. The phrase "Home of the Brave" is in our American National Anthem. I'm not posting this for the politics, however. I'm posting it so everyone can see how good the Queen looks in a bikini.

I just got back from visiting Weimar. Lots of election posters up all over the place. I always get more news about the United States when I'm in Germany than when I'm here in my own country.

If you're in Weimar, make sure to go see Der Bajazzo and Turandot at the opera. My daughter directed these!

I've known about the healthcare debate from The Daily Show (public option = euthanasia, Obama = socialism). It's even been coverd by news in Germany. (Where the co-existance of private and public option lead to a 2 class system of healthcare - which is "good vs. bad healthcare" instead of "fair vs. no healthcare"...)

And 2nd amendment debates are always funny - seen from an European perspective (which happens to be the planet I am on biggrin.gif )

Conservative blogger Roger Kimball suggested Yale change its motto "Lux et Veritas" (Light and Truth) to "Timiditas et deditio" (cowardice and surrender). This is kind of funny since our entire healthcare debate presently turns on conservatives being afraid of socialism ruining America. This is the "public option" reference. Anyhow, this cartoon really hinges on a lot of obscure knowledge. Also, the phrase "What planet are you on", is an American idiom meaning "Are you crazy?"

but seriously: your explanaitions for a german audiance are always helpful. only that in this one I wonder if your average "home of the brave"-based reader understands timidas et deditio? confused.gif

yeah this was a crazy action... the provoking cartoons were not really realized until some guys showed them to al quaeda a half year later... and when it was allowed for us to see some of them... not one of them was really funny or good... i never understood this hole mess angry.gifirritated.gifyawn.gifsleeping.gif
