Train travel in the United States suffer from a lack of direct routes. It's so much better in Germany. Without a car, we can't go anywhere.

We (Europeans) have got them in Zurich, Amsterdam and London. They intended to use them in Germany as well, but luckily the people here got so enraged that politicians had to abandon the idea. I think the discussion is pretty dead right now.

I do not envy you Americans for that. Isn't train traveling a real alternative in the US?
