Fernbank 2

I must've done something right the first time with the earlier mural, because I was called back a year later to do something with a disused bike shelter at the back of the school.

We opted for "Ireland through the ages" as a theme, and again I drafted the roughs in black outline and let the kids do the colour under my supervision. And, again, I did search and rescue work for a few days afterwards to pull the whole thing into shape.

The last picture features the first Irish female astronaut in front of the space shuttle "Celtic Tiger". :) Can you believe it?

I never use projector or stencils - all of my drawings are freehand and done on location as required. I don't like doing prep work - bad work ethic, I know. I just like to get in, do the painting, and get out as fast as I can. In fact, it never occurred to me for the first fifteen years that I there might be a projector I could use. I did know another guy who used the grid system to copy drawings, but I always thought that was too slow - and I kinda thought it was cheating. My belief is that everything should come straight from the brain to the hand. Mind you, looking at what has come to my hands, maybe I should worry about my brain...drool.gif

Very nice!
I hope no idiot is going to spray grafity on your work of art!

How did you do the outlines? Did you enlarged scribbles through a projector? Or did you just draw them in large skale!?!

Thanks for the kind comments.smile.gif Much appreciated.

I have to say, though, that even though the kids are great to work with, some of them had very individual and eccentric views on colour and what constituted a line.mixed.gifconfused.gif A more picky artist than me might well have considered the option of breaking down and crying. I don't want to squash anyone's personal style, but the "search and rescue" part of the work was VERY necessary.

yes - it's fantastic again....and how the kids must feel, to have worked on it themselves - nobody would dare to destroy or harm this work by graffiti....doubletop.gifdoubletop.gifdoubletop.gif
