interesting. i didn't know that. some of my favorites are Tintin and Asterix, and i've always loved their clean simplicity. when comics started adding shading and highlights, i wasn't crazy about the look, but i never learned to crosshatch (or more to the point, when to stop crosshatching, haha).

i look forward to other thoughts from you.

Hey Genevieve, apart from Des's suggestions yours are the first since I posted this two years ago but I love your suggestions (as I do Des's) so I'll file them away somewhere and maybe come back to them if I come back to this series.

I like crosshatching but I really think I went over the top with it when I drew the strip 'Option No-Go' years back. In fairness, the strip was never intended to be read online and cross-hatching does not lend itself well to digital re-imaging. I really do prefer to read hard copy copics rather than over the internet. When presenting work to be read online it's often best to keep it as simple and as clear as possible.

you won't have to write a thing, Simon - once people start reading it, they'll send you all their peeves to illustrate. i'm particularly irked by "in the weeds" and "what are the optics?"

i like this clean style of yours, but was very interested to read your comment about crosshatching (you thought you overdid it in the older comic) and i'd love to see more thoughts from you about the actual comic drawing techniques you like and don't like or think work/don't work.

Wahey!doubletop.gif Going forward, I feel that we could bluesky some great work. Let's get our ducks in a row, here, Si.

Alu - Someone actually said 'Go figure' to me a while ago. I interpret the comment as 'Go away, figure it out and come back and tell me when you've figured it out'. It is so condescending. I can appreciate that most readers on this site are German speakers but even so the expression irritated me so much that I felt I had to do a strip around this and upload it to 'Toonsup'

Des - there IS a book here and you came up with some truly great crapsressions for it. Care to work on the book with me?

As a lucky coincidence I just recently learned the meaning of 'go figure' and now I read the perfect example for a nice wordplay comic happy.gif
One has to appreciate the 5th & 6th panels as they spice up the punchline quite a lot. Nice work there, love it doubletop.gif

Up there with "outside the box", "going forward", "blue sky", and "ducks in a row", to name a few. There's a book in this, Si.

Excellent work, by the way.doubletop.gif
