A Long Night with a Sketchbook

My wife was away there last week, and I find the evenings are very long without her. So I got out my sketchbook and a bunch of old newspapers and did a series of sketches, interspersed with some reading, between 11 pm and 3 am. Then I went to bed...

The last sketch was one of my attempts to draw with my left hand. It's shaky, but not too bad,

Thanks for the comments. The idea was just to do as many sketches as possible, so I wasn't aiming at portraits. Well spotted on Freddy Mercury, Tommes.smile.gif Also in there is William H.Macy, Nicholas Cage, Angelina Jolie, David Jason, Eric Cantona, and Christopher Lee, along with a bunch of random faces from newspaper photos. NOT portraits, just sketches, so the likenesses are only faint.

I just aim to put line on paper, whether it's male, female, animal, mineral, or vegetable. Not thinking too much and just letting the eyes talk to the hand without letting the brain get in the way is the trick. All subjects are equally interesting in that sense, and, as an artist, you have to treat them as such. Not that I consider myself an artist, but I have faint aspirations in that direction.

This ist great - it's very inspiring to see how you are scribbling! I absolutely love your sribbles - in some faint way they remind me of my own - even if mine are not that drawn from live. I always scribble just bits of persons - torsos without heads and vice versa. Mainly heads - womens heads preferred. I still have some trouble to get the grip of the main principle of women. I have to concentrate quite hard - meanwhile I quite know how to make a womens face look like one and not just like some kind of male transvastite...but doesn't come easy to me ...male faces just pop out of my pencil by themself...but women....and it's so much more interresting to draw women, isn't it?!
I love your scribbles, des!doubletop.gifdoubletop.gifdoubletop.gif
P.S.: Is this by any chance Freddy Mercury singing?
